Courtenay Puckett
This group of work is shaped by my reflections on the beautiful land around me. I have been enamored by the wide views and crop harvesting, as well as homesteads and simple living. Growing up outside of Atlanta, these scenes were rare. Hope you enjoy these pieces for their joyful peacefulness.
“Harvest Fields”
The earth is the LORD'S, and all it contains, The world, and those who dwell in it. Psalm 24:1
“Rainy Monday” I was inspired by all the rain our region has gotten this past month. The bright green grass caught my eye against the dreary sky.
“High Cotton” is a piece that I created to merge my charcoal cotton drawings with abstract handling. The media includes acrylic paint, ink, charcoal, and gold luster paint.
“On the Way” is a view from my drive on the way to town. Dirt roads, rough grass, clumps of growth under the pines. Around here people grow Pine trees on their land. When they get harvested, sometimes there is just a skinny little row left. I used to think they were such ugly trees, but now, since living among them for some years, I have grown fond of the way the light sprinkles through the needles and rests along the trunk. They have a tall loveliness to them, I have to admit.
“Farmhouse” This old homestead, known as “The McDonald House” is a little bit down the way and the house sits proudly looking out on her hundreds of acres. Such beauty and poise, I love it’s architecture and the many stories it could tell!
“New Horizons” This piece is first piece i created where I wasn’t worried about what it was going to look like in the end, or what someone else wanted it to look like. I made my own choices based on my own ideas. I found my artistic freedom in this piece and to me, it will always be a reminder of that joy.
‘Windmill” There is a fabulous working windmill down the road from where I live. I have been in awe of its weathered beauty and the past lives it represents.
“Be Still”
This charcoal drawing represents Psalm 46:10 “Be still and know that I am God”. The grand beauty of the trees reminds us of the splendor of God. The bench invites us to come sit a while, just as God the Father invites all to draw near. And the reflective water shows that all things are laid bare before the Lord; He knows all and sees all. It is comforting and good to be in His presence.
“Spring Garden” shape and color play in the form of a flower bouquet.
